Users Disappointed By New Features In iOS 15

Apple recently introduced iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 at WWDC, but users say they are disappointed with th…

At the beginning of June, Apple unveiled the next version of the iPhone’s operating system, iOS 15. A major update that will introduce several new features. However, according to a survey conducted by the SellCell website, these new features are far from exciting for iPhone owners.

For half of the 3,000 survey participants – iPhone and/or iPad owners – iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 are mildly or not at all exciting. 28% of respondents said that the new version of iOS and iPadOS was somewhat exciting and only 19% felt that these updates were very exciting.

23% say the feature they like is the ability to have their ID card directly on their iPhone within the Wallet application. 17.3% say they like the improvements to Spotlight search and 14.2% like the new features for Locate.

The other features…

As for the other features that Apple highlighted during the keynote, it’s a free fall. Not even 1% think that the “Shared with you” feature on iMessage, the changes to the Health application and the improvements to the Maps application, with more details on the maps, were the best new features. For the rest, 5% said they were interested in spatial audio on FaceTime, the new notifications and the new “Focused” mode.

These figures are easy to understand. Indeed, the new features introduced by iOS 15 are nowhere near as interesting as those introduced by iOS 14 last year.

The current version of the iPhone’s operating system introduced widgets, picture-in-picture display, App Clips, an instant translation app and more. Where iOS15 brings a few improvements here and there, notably within FaceTime and smarter notifications.

Users expectations…

SellCell also asked what features respondents would like to see.

Here is the result:

  • 32.3% wanted interactive widgets,
  • 21% wanted Always-On mode,
  • 14.9% wanted Pro apps (like Xcode and Final Cut Pro) and
  • 13.2% wanted better support for external displays with the iPad.

Of course, not every new version of an operating system has to be a revolution in itself, but iOS 14 had set the bar high, especially with the anti-tracking option. So it’s only natural that iOS 15 looks less exciting next to it.
This doesn’t mean that the next version of iOS won’t improve users’ daily lives. But we’ll have to be patient to find out. iOS 15 isn’t expected to roll out until next fall.

As a result, the new features recently announced by Apple for the iPhone and iPad make “generation 15” of the operating system one of the most lacklustre in recent years. The study does not stop there. Among other things, the study shows that many of the brand’s customers are superstitious. The prospect that the next iPhone will be called “iPhone 13” displeases 74% of users who would prefer Apple to choose another name.
